J&L Theater
Our client wanted a unique space where they could not only watch all the latest block-buster movies in Dolby Atmos surround sound, but also desired a secondary space where they could simply sit back with a glass of wine and watch the news.
The challenge as you can see was the space itself. The bonus room was just large enough to create the theater but we had no additional space for the sitting and wine areas.
During our discovery meetings we found that adding a wine tasting area along with a full wine cellar were at the top of the clients wish list and they already had the plans and a builder working on that project.
Ultimately the back wall was removed and the entire contents of the adjacent attic were relocated to allow for the wine cellar, sitting area and equipment location.
The client wanted a dedicated area for theater seating but had need for additional seats for visitors that didn't want to watch an entire movie. We worked together to create a bar with additional seating directly behind the theaters custom leather seats.
As you can tell from each of the before and after photos, this was a HUGE transformation of the clients existing space that turned out as a world-class space and more importantly,. stayed on budget.
Relocate existing low-voltage wires during the renovation in multiple phases in order to keep existing services up and working while construction was starting.
Once the project was underway the real fun began.
Entire walls were coming down and limited access to certain areas required the MHT team to coordinate with the clients builder and other trades on the project to facilitate a smooth installation.
As you can see from the photos, the door that provides third floor attic access is in the room and simply couldn't be moved. We got creative and used the curtains to help hide the door while still providing access to the needed area.
Limited space required that MHT build out the speaker wall using speakers that where large enough to achieve the desired SPL, while being small enough to fit into the 9" depth we created with the screen wall.
A full Dolby Atmos 5.2.4 system was deployed to envelope the seating area.
Installed a small, fan cooled equipment rack to house the Preamp, Amps and source components.
Installed a 110" Acoustically transparent Stewart screen, paired with JVC's 4k-eShift projector, the image quality is outstanding in this light controlled room.
Adding the motorized theatrical curtains makes the room a true theater. The amazing curtain quality, smooth operation and ability to integrate into the control system, took the rooms' looks and feel to the next level.
Client provided several motorized shades that all became part of the automated control system and helps control ambient light in the room.
The secondary sitting area features a 60" Samsung TV being fed via Zone2 form the Marantz preamp. This design allows all of the theaters sources to be accessed independent of one another in the sitting area
All of the equipment is located in a closet created during the renovation process.
When the project was complete, we provided the experience the clients were looking for, with lots of extras they didn't expect.
We were able to create a truly unique entertainment space where the entire family can enjoy movies, music and video games on the big-screen, while others are relaxing to their favorite wine while watching the news or a ball game.
When the client is ready for a movie, they simply grab the iPad form the wall and press "Watch Movie". The curtains open, the systems all power up and they are able to relax in what we feel are the best theater seats made and watch movies in reference sound levels and 4K video quality.
Faux painting on the walls and ceiling from MHT helped tie the areas together including custom painting on the wood column at the back of the room to give a "marble" look without the price (or weight)
The team at Memphis Home Theater were fantastic to work with on our remodel. They sit down and take the necessary time to understand what you are looking for and more importantly how you want to use the rooms. They provide input, ideas, and help you understand what can be done in a way that is easy to understand. Balancing various priorities can be difficult and to a home owner AV and home automation can be overwhelming, but when you have someone like Lamar he really makes it easy to get to an amazing endpoint without stress. With our remodel we achieved something that was greater than we had envisioned on our own. Lamar and his team added more to the final result than one expects from an AV company, they helped us transform the spaces into something quite unique. I highly recommend them!
