Obsidian will be available as a standalone or Z-Wave compatible product featuring the new Z-Wave 500 Series chip. This chip offers extended wireless range, over the-air firmware updates and superior wireless encryption for the connected Obsidian smart lock.

Additionally, Obsidian features SecureScreen technology, a patented security feature that helps prevent “smudge” attacks, or the ability for unwanted guests to detect frequently used numbers from the oily residues left on the touchscreen surface. With SecureScreen, users are prompted to touch two random numbers in order to display the full touchscreen, encouraging fingerprints on all numbers, not just those of the user code.

Obsidian’s capacitive touchscreen remains blackened until touched, quickly illuminating for fast code entry. The smart lock can also be controlled remotely when integrated to a Z-Wave automation system.

Design

Featuring a polished exterior capacitive touchscreen with crisp LED display, Obsidian’s responsive touchscreen was designed for both day and night lighting. The lock’s sleek, modern exterior is complemented by the deadbolt’s compact metal interior and available in two finishes, Venetian Bronze and Satin Nickel.

Obsidian is designed to fit a variety of lifestyles by offering various means of entry. Obsidian enables users to lock or unlock the deadbolt using an access code or using their phones (Z-Wave enabled products only), completely eliminating the need for traditional keys.

In the case of a power failure, Obsidian features two nine-volt terminals at the bottom of the deadbolt exterior that act as a backup power source. Replace hide-a-keys with a 9V battery, and use the battery to quickly power the deadbolt by simply touching the battery prongs to the terminals.
