This particular project was on a lake in Minnesota and is primarily a summer home. They wanted the entire home automated, especially the lighting and shades. The customer did not want to have to deal with turning off multiple lights throughout the house especially after they leave for months at a time. They wanted motorized shades for privacy and protection from the sun (furniture and hardwoods). When leaving the home they wanted to be able to push one button to “shut the house down” per say. Entertaining was important to the customers as well, they wanted to be able to set up different moods for different types of entertaining. Another nice feature is during certain times in the evening they can push a button and set up the lighting and shades to view the gorgeous lake! The entire system is centralized so wall acne was not an issue. The main controls for lighting system, are ipads, on wall touch panels, and decorator keypads
Fulfillment of Customer Needs
Describe how the system addressed the customer's needs and desires. Include:
• How the systems and components were integrated physically and aesthetically into the architecture of the structure
The interior design was very important to the customer, and did not want to see a bunch of light switches, thermostats, shade controllers, or knobs around the house. So a centralized lighting & shade system was chose in order to accomplish this. All the equipment is out of sight out of mind. Every single wire is clearly labeled and organized for easy remote troubleshooting.
The equipment racks to run the automation system are in the basement. The lighting and shade control panels are hidden throughout the house in various closets and unfinished spaces. The only thing the customer sees is the touch panels and lighting keypads. The televisions and speakers we’re designed to integrate with the space and not be obtrusive. All the shade valances Match the wall color and are recessed for clean aesthetics. Most of the televisions are recessed as well.
• Improvements in quality of life for the customer
Setting up the home is very easy for the client compared to their other houses previous to having automation. This is clearly their favorite house and here’s why: upon entering in the garage or front door, the alarm can be disarmed from the Crestron touch panel. Pathway lighting can be set up, shades can be opened, and music instantly be turned on all with entering their code. The temperature of the home can also be set remotely along with any lighting and shade presets. One of the best features the customer likes is when he’s out on the boat in the evening coming back towards the house, He loves to the outside lights from his phone! His friends get a kick out of it every time. He can even turn on the music in the backyard well he’s docking the boat.

• Intuitiveness and ease of use functions
The customer has the same Interface at all three homes. So no matter what home they go to they don’t need to learn a whole new interface. This customer is very busy and does not have time to learn a whole new system every time they visit the summer home. Other feedback from guests have been great that the system is easy to use and intuitive. The touch panels require little or no instruction to use.
• Any documentation that was provided to the owner at the completion of the project
• We have a project sign off and immediate release form. The customer also gave us permission to use quotes from his video testimonial. We also have engineer drawings of the system.
We love that the system is very easy to use. Each time we visit the house it’s easy to pick up the controls and I understand how to use it. Having the same interface at multiple homes is a must! I love being able to pull in from fishing on the lake and turn on my system from the lake. Every time we entertain we get compliments on the system. My wife absolutely loves all the automated shades and lighting. It’s also great Logic can remote into the system and check the system before we arrive.
