Palmetto Bluff Luxury Home
The goal was to take a multi million dollar low country style home and add all the home technology possible without taking away from the old country feel.
We designed a home automation system consisting of:
Elan Home Automation Controller
84 Centralized and 24 local Lutron QS lighting zones
3 dedicated landscape lighting zones
17 Lutron QS Roller and Roman shades on custom woven fabrics
4 motion controlled energy recovery ventilators
Integration of 4 motorized outdoor porch screens
10 zones of 4K HDMI video distribution
8 local 4K video zones
12 zones of distributed audio
45 integrated zones of security, fire, and water detection.
6 HD IP camera locations with data storage
Network distribution and AC WIFI coverage for 11,000 sgft house
Pool and spa integration
Integration of fireplace control
Bluebolt battery backup and energy management system
The Lutron lighting control system allowed us to reduce wall switch clutter and to program custom lighting scenes for each keypads. Lutron roller shades were built into hidden pockets and the TV’s were built into the ceiling on motorized lifts to help protect the beauty and charm of the house. Motorized outdoor screens were built into trim of the home to keep the "pesky" part of nature out.
The centrally located 4K video and multi zone streaming audio systems were designed to allow any user to access their favorite shows and music from anywhere.
Scene control was key to the outcome of this project. The challenge wasn’t installing all of the unique systems within the house, it was creating one system that would allow all of the individual systems to work together seamlessly from one simple to use platform.
This home required the wiring and most of the electronics to be hidden, TV’s in each room were the exception. (2) A/V racks are used to manage and conceal the electronics, which are on a full energy management system with battery backup.
We also needed full control of the 84 zone lighting system without creating wall clutter, therefore, Lutron keypads were used.Using hidden Lutron automated shades and an astronomical time clock, we programmed the system to save energy by limiting sun exposure based on the compass orientation of the house and time of day.
We were able to meet the needs of both husband and wife through motorized porch screens, landscape lighting, and automated fireplaces. Giving our clients the perfect outdoor setting. Additionally, there’s a 75” 4K Sony TV and (2) 49” 4K Sony TV’s paired with a sound system which is all hidden within those wooden ceilings.
For complete control using mobile wireless devices, we utilized a combination of AC routers, wired access points, and a 24 port managed gigabit switch within each A/V rack to create a dependable network and AC WIFI distribution system.Having young kids, we programmed the surveillance system to trigger alerts when motion was detected in certain areas of the home, like the pool or hot tub.
When the doorbell is pressed, all audio will mute and a custom chime will ring through the overhead and outdoor speakers. Using front and rear door cameras, they can then view the camera images through their mobile device and/or TV’s.
Scene control and system compatibility were critical to designing the system that our clients were after. The “welcome” button can trigger a lighting scene, ignite the fireplaces, adjust the HVAC, activate the pool and spa, and start playing music based on the time of day.
Our clients wanted a completely automated home that still had southern charm. We integrated the TV lifts into the ceiling using custom cooled back boxes made from the same wood material that was used for the ceiling to give the mechanisms a completely invisible look.
The window casings, door casings, and interior moldings were all custom built to allow for the Lutron roller shades to be hidden from site and the shade itself to flow through a custom slot, hidding the shades when not in use.
The home owners wanted to have porch screens during times of the year when bugs are more prevalent, but also remove those screens during the spring and fall months. We worked with the contractor to have the outdoor screens motorized within the wall and ceiling framing. Our client can operate the automated porch screens from any wall keypad, or mobile device.
Contact closures on the automation system were used to control the ignitors on the fireplaces giving the client single button fireplace control and child lockout for safety measures. A state of the art security and HD video camera system keeps the property safe and secure.
Our clients were directly impacted by Hurricane Mathew and the BlueBolt energy management protected the system. Once power was restored, the system was running like a champ; a testimonial to how critical power management and battery backup are to quality of life.
Our client wanted an easy to use system. The Elan Home Systems platform allowed us to utilize keypads, remote controls, and mobile devices to control the entire automation system and still keep the same fluid look throughout all of the devices. Meaning, the remote control screen mirrored the iPad screen making the system easy to control and familiar on any device.
"We just completed our new home and AIC did an amazing job on audio visual system, Lutron lighting system and electric shades. They worked with us to create a user friendly, personalized system for our family's needs. For example, we wanted 3 televisions in one area, but did not want to impact our views. AIC created two hidden TV's that drop from the ceiling - something unique to fit our needs. Curt, Jen, and Joe and the entire AIC team made this experience flawless!"
