Futurian Systems - Old Pub New Tech
When it comes to innovation, this system truly exemplifies how creative Futurian can be with the solutions they deliver. In an old-school type space, this new age technology brings a unique system that delivers an awesome experience to the homeowner and guests alike.
The Vail Valley, CO division of Futurian Systems was approached to help design a vintage English Pub/Bar that would deliver a unique experience with a variety of high-end electronics. Not only would the space offer some delicious libations coupled with great sounding audio, ultra-high-definition video, and some really cool lighting, but a completely unexpected way in which to access a hidden saferoom!
From the beginning of construction of the room, Futurian was involved. Strategically routing the very best wiring available in preparation for audio and video distribution, LED lighting, electronic door locks, and access control buttons. Futurian also planned well in advance to future-proof the room for technology of today and tomorrow. Futurian’s team managed all details of the project to successfully achieve all of the homeowner’s desires.
One of the most ingenious features of the system was how Futurian went about installing the technology to create access to a safe behind a hidden door. Reminiscent of the days of old mansions with hidden staircases, secret passageways, and other nooks and crannies, this pub has a big surprise with a push of cloaked button.
The owner’s requests were very specific, but generalized with the comment, “I want this to be the nicest home bar in all of Vail.” These words sparked a vision to create an atmosphere that would include some of the most cutting edge technology available. Features both visible and hidden to reinforce the desire to have the nicest bar around.
The English Pub was an addition to the home which required all new framing, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and of course low voltage work. Futurian worked with the General Contractor in coordinating scheduling with the other trades to ensure the proper wiring would go in place, and ultimately the technology would integrate with the sub-systems being installed.
The home required a significant amount of retrofitting wire to support the requests of the owner. While the home was built in 2005, it still needed updated audio, video, data, security, and automation wiring to deliver the additional zones of whole-house-audio, video distribution, lighting and access control, and automation solutions preferred.
In addition to the bar system, the other 6,500 square foot was to also include smart home technology that would all be tied together. This posed a challenge with three different areas which included electronics that would drive not only the bar, but the basement and main floors as well. More wiring became necessary to ensure the distribution of signals between all such locations.
The expansive nature of this system required a means of control that was simple to use and activated certain scenes that were personalized. Futurian’s thirteen years of experience with Control 4’s home automation systems, allowed the delivery of setting up the audio, video, lighting, security, and access controls to react in a manner that was specific to the homeowner’s desire with a single button press.
The homeowner’s desire was to have a whole-house system that was both easy to use and reliable for his family. It was to include a bar and entertainment area for their guests that delivered the very best listening and viewing experience, while also offering some attractive multi-colored lighting control and the reveal of a hidden safe room that was completely unexpected.
Futurian’s dedication to the project over the course of fifteen months delivers an absolutely amazing experience each time the system is used. As the owners entertain their guests, the “Entertainment Mode” captures everyone’s attention as the twelve different lighting loads start to rotate different colors, Beethoven’s Symphony #5 blasts through the speakers, and 4K Ultra HD TV video comes alive. Guests become awe-struck to say the least.
Unbeknownst to the guests, Beethoven’s Symphony is symbolic of a hidden mystery within the bar area. At the end of the bar you would find his statue mounted atop a hidden box. Pivoting Beethoven’s bust backwards reveals a button in which to push that releases a secret electronic door that opens to a safe room behind the walls.
The use of this system has been made very easy with custom programing of buttons on remote controls, in-wall touchscreens, mobile devices, or on-screen TV interfaces to activate the personalized modes requested by the owner. This, in turn, created a true enhancement to the lifestyle by allowing a more enhanced experience.
“Great work on the bar!”
“We are very pleased… did a fantastic job…”
