This project is the transformation of a 1980s modern home to a state of the art Modern home. The scale of this project required that the SmartHouse team coordinate and communicate with all the subsystems to ensure that this project will be the ultimate integration project.

Our design required us to integrate the following systems:

- 100 lighting loads in 15 zones with Lutron Homeworks
- 4 zones of landscape lighting
- 44 Lutron QS shades
- 8 zones of audio distribution
- 8 zones of video distribution
- 75 zones of security and fire detection
- 7 zones of climate control
- 15 cameras with data storage
- Massive network with WIFI coverage
- Pool and spa control

The homeowner has an amazing art collection that directed the lighting design. The whole house music design was dictated by the fact that his friends in town are world famous rock stars. The security and CCTV requirements were complete peace of mind for the homeowner.

The challenge was creating an integration project that would be difficult in new construction let alone in a retro fit project. We had to utilize our experience and imagination to make this happen. A crew of technicians, a dedicated management staff and a lot of cable converged on this project to install the new electronic infrastructure after drywall had been removed. In order to properly wire this home, a massive conduit system needed to be installed in the ground floor garage. Core drilling in each of the four head end locations allowed us to run cabling to different parts of the home.

Removing the antiquated Lite touch lighting system and replacing it with a new Lutron Homeworks system was monumental. Installing shades in all the rooms including the 18 ft ceilings utilized miles of cable. Cat6 was run everywhere for interconnecting and network.

Project Scope
The scope of this project was the largest in our 18 years in business. The homes modern design and clean lines dictated that all of our equipment and cabling be hidden. This home was made of concrete and there are three different ceiling heights in the home. None of which lead to each other. All cabling was done in a new, massive conduit subsystem running in the ground floor 8 car garage. Everything needed to be replaced.

The home had an old lite touch lighting system. We de-installed the lite touch and installed a new Lutron Homeworks system. New Lutron cabling was run to all 44 of the new Keypad locations throughout the home. There are two main locations for Lutron panels and shade power supplies. We installed Kichler LED landscape lighting and integrated it into the homes lighting system.

The main head end was located behind a secret panel in the media room. Two large Sanus racks house all the audio /video equipment including the ELAN D12 amplifiers and M86P music distribution amps as well as the ELAN SC10 controller. JBL synthesis amplifiers power the four JBL synthesis speakers and two JBL sub woofers that fill the great room with sound.

A state of the art security system is in place to ensure the property is secure. 15 IP cameras are strategically placed around the property and backed up to an 8 TB hard drive. The Luxul network and 4 WIFI axes points create a robust network. Seven climate zones are controlled by Leviton thermostats installed in the air handler closets. Surface mount temp sensors in the rooms provide temp readings to the system. Pool and spa control are integrated into the ELAN g! system.

The wine room has temperature sensors and will notify the client if the temperature changes.

All aspects of the system are controlled by the ELAN g! system.

Customer Needs
Our client wanted a state of the art home system that matched the other aspects in his home. His art collection, his car collection and his wine collection. All of which are the best of the best.

We installed a new electronic infrastructure of CAT6, Lutron control cable, Speaker cable, and control cable for all aspects of his new home automation system. This system is controlled by the ELAN g! system. The systems we are integrating include:

- Whole house music
- Video distribution
- Networking and wifi
- Climate control
- Pool control
- Outdoor music with subwoofers
- Outdoor landscape lighting

- Wine cellar monitoring

We designed programs to make life simpler and more convenient:

- One touch buttons welcomes the homeowner.
- The goodbye button waits for the owners to leave and then locks down the property.
- We have a storm shutter button called hurricane that will close all shutters from anywhere in the world.

The requirement for the music in the home was that the owner wanted his best friend in town, a very well know rock star, to be impressed when he turned it up. The JBL synthesis speakers in the great room handle that well while the sets of Speakercraft 8” outdoor speakers and Boom tombs makes the outdoors rumble.

The art collection is what drove the design for the lighting. Each piece of art has a light installed just for it. Some are wall mounts and some are ceiling mounts. We installed 6 RGB, LED DMX controlled lights to illuminate and change colors while a kinetic sculpture in the great room runs through it dance.

All of our equipment and controllers are hidden behind panels throughout the home. Only touch screens are visible.
