Innovation is the driving force of Liaison’s company mission, and for this Chicago North Shore project, we pushed ourselves to think outside the box to streamline installation and elevate performance. We used a single Crestron system to control high voltage and low voltage lighting fixtures in both outdoor and indoor settings, whereas in the past we would have needed separate control interfaces for each system. Amazingly 18/2 wire can simultaneously deliver power and control for the low-voltage lighting fixtures. These LED lighting fixtures only need and receive the voltage they require because of their over 90% efficiency. As a result, we’re able to use a thinner wire that is easier to install, less costly, and prevents wasting extra energy.
For this expansive 18,000 square foot home, we designed a centralized lighting control system that provides the highest level of performance, reduces energy usage, and eliminates wall clutter by converting a bank of light switches to one single designer keypad. Unique to this and our other Crestron controlled systems is our patented GUI. This GUI provides the client total control of their system from a simple to use interface on touch panels as well as tablets.
Illumination, lighting control, brilliance, lighting consistency, lighting color, and true surface colors were all very important to the client. We worked with LumaStream to give the client the type of lighting quality and control that he wanted. For outdoor areas, Luxor’s specialized landscape lighting fixtures provided enhanced security and comfort options. We used Crestron’s distributed lighting systems to give the homeowner control of their different types of lighting loads from one general control solution. To integrate both high voltage and low voltage lighting we went with a hybrid solution that tied both centralized and traditional wireless dimmers into one control interface.
