Control4 - Ladies Lake Project
Ladies Lake is a unique property located in historic St. Andrews, Scotland. It commands 180-degree panoramic views of the bay and of Old Course, a world-famous golf course, as well as an ancient castle.
Pyramid AV designed and installed a home control system managed by Control4 incorporating seamless control of multi-zone audio and video systems, climate control, integration of under-floor heating & mechanical heat recovery, blinds & curtains, complex lighting, discrete video monitoring and door access, a remote HD ‘wildlife’ camera, gate and door security controls, and remote monitoring of the entire property – all via a simple Control4 user interface and app.
As part of the system, Pyramid AV also designed and installed a cutting-edge architectural lighting system for the entire property and grounds. Incorporating a host of modern lighting solutions, the energy-efficient, all-LED system was designed to not only enhance the stunning architecture and interior design, but also provide a unique circadian lighting system that mimics the natural sun’s light throughout the day.
This massive project features over 64 channels of universal dimming, 36 wired keypads, a large AV system featuring 13 independent music zones, and much more. The system is extensive, thoughtfully designed, and completely personalized.
From initial consultation to installation, Ladies Lake was a 30-month project for Pyramid AV. Managed and installed by an in-house team of engineers, they delivered their most complex and successful residential project in the UK.
The customer was looking to create a holiday home that allowed them to have a home base in St Andrews. They wanted to create a property that allowed them full advantage of the location as well as to have a house that was hugely energy efficient, used all the latest technology, and was unique.
One of the key customer requests was the ability to remotely view the various breeds of coastal birds that inhabit the site and neighboring cliffs. Pyramid AV provided a high-resolution camera system that allowed clear images to be viewed from wherever they are outside of the home.
Because the customer travels frequently, they were very interested in the concept of ‘human-centric lighting’. A unique dynamic lighting system was designed for the property that assists the owners to recover more quickly from jet lag, as well as ensure the interior light temperatures are always in tune with their internal time clocks using Control4 lighting and scenes.
Using Control4, Pyramid AV brought all of the installed integrated technologies under the control of one, easy-to-use system that offers convenience, security, and entertainment. The customer wanted a powerful system that was simple to use, as they’ve had a bad experience with a previously installed integration system.
With Control4’s powerful processing and software in the background, touch screens and wall switches provide the customer with an intelligent home that is programmed to seamlessly responds to their needs. Pyramid AV worked around the award-winning design of the home and designed a system that works with the unique nature of the home’s design. They created a Control4 system that allows for control over various TVs and video inputs, audio DSP’s and sources, automated TV lifts and brackets, advanced lighting control of complex systems, blinds & curtains, access controls, heating and climate controls, as well as CCTV and remote monitoring. Scenes like Away/Vacation Mode include control over lighting to make the home look lived-in as well as keep it secure. For additional security, four thermal cameras covering key access points around the perimeter allow for 24/7 monitoring and any movement that occurs outside of the normal occupancy settings are triggered by Control4 as an alarm event. This alarm event sets off a series of lighting sequences that light up the property’s extensive landscaping and facade lighting.
