This 16,850sf picturesque home along the intercostal waterway in Palm Beach has a reputation among local Lutron dealers, and for good reason. Tequesta currently holds the record for largest number of residential Lutron Finire fixtures at 650 with 700ft of Lutron Lumaris. Outside, Tequesta made history again by designing and installing the first Lutron Ecosystem landscape lighting with 200 Garden Light fixtures. Powering and networking lights, shades, and touch panel displays in a home not originally built for next-gen automation presented its challenges. We had to be creative about design, calculated with our installation decisions, and meticulous about creating a network infrastructure that is intuitive and easy to control.
The entire home is a museum of rare and fine art collectibles and the right light is absolutely essential. Light sensors trigger shades to move with the sun in order to maximize ambient hues and protect artifacts from direct sunlight. As the sun sets, audio and landscape lighting accent the property all the way down to the dock. It’s imperative that all interior, exterior, and guest house fixtures were integrated into one controllable ecosystem.
The home also has a bowling alley built and maintained by Brunswick. To celebrate her love for art and his love for gaming, the client wanted to upgrade the existing bowling alley by utilizing the latest and greatest in creative tech. The client hosts multiple events and fundraisers throughout the year for distinguished guests. They needed the ability to quickly change scenes throughout the entire property at the tap of a button, and wanted the bowling alley to support special events and fundraising initiatives. This was an incredible opportunity for BPS to technically support, design, and build a home and interactive bowling game driven entirely by light.
To tackle this massive project, BPS began with designing, installing, and integrating necessary drivers, processors, and fixtures. Lights and shades need to work together to offer preset scenes for family members and guests who require regulated settings, and the client wanted precise lumen values in specific areas of the home. We were able to use AGi32 to dial individual lights and organize them into manageable zones.
Interior designers were consulted for every room to curate the best possible environment for her art collection. He is a prolific writer and needed to showcase his books. Custom floor to ceiling shelves were constructed to support 250’+ of Lutron Lumaris used in the office, now a meeting place for dignitaries from around the world. The exterior offers 17 floodlights, 32 carriage sconces, and 179 Garden Light fixtures that are seamlessly integrated into the home control network.
The bowling alley pushes the boundaries of traditional lighting and gaming to the next level. With 51,510 LED DMX controlled Madrix channels and a suite of 54 Chauvet concert lights tastefully placed within 3,000sf, this is unlike anything we’ve seen or created before. Three 6,000lm Sony laser projectors accompany three Sony cameras that allow us to map each bowling lane and deliver visual content linked to gaming outcomes. With the use of TouchMagix interactive display software and Brunswick’s proprietary scoring software, we are able to trigger graphics for downed pins and bowler performance. This gives BPS the ability to take responsive projection mapping using original content and create completely unique bowling environments for our client.
The main house, guest house, bowling alley, and garden offers our client the ability to host friends, family, and events in ways previously unexplored by traditional automation integrators. The end result is a perfect blend of convenience, art education, and entertainment.
Our client had very specific lighting needs for Tequesta. A prized art collection, the ability to frequently entertain distinguished guests, and a bowling alley from the future. The results exceeded client expectations and exemplifies the best of what automated interior and exterior lighting design can offer. Convenience, control, metrics, monitoring, and beautifying what is most important to us.
In addition to offering our client a museum-like environment throughout the home, BPS provided an ensemble of creative and engineered solutions to address specific client needs; we’re incredibly grateful to play a role in their enjoyment and success. The true integrative use of lighting, cameras, projectors, interactive software, and creative imagery provides a completely unique and innovative gaming experience. It was important to BPS to keep the architectural simplicity of the room in tact and do everything possible conceal hardware. To make this happen, we custom built mounts and pockets that kept hardware out of player sightlines. This extra step helps accentuate light and projection content, and allows players a more engaged gaming experience.
As a bonus, we gave our client access to our workflow and the ability to showcase original content. Thrilled by the ability to do this, they are hosting a fundraiser in the new year to help support a local charity. The entire bowling alley will be branded around a specific theme and it will mark a fun first in fundraising. The transformation of this traditional home and bowling alley to an entirely updated automated home and play space of the future, in the words of our client, is a complete success. We’re grateful to have participated in such a unique lighting control project.
